Responsibilities:
Responsible for the delivery of a range of weather forecast products tailored to general public, media, marine and aviation. Monitoring the weather in relation to Aviation, Civil and Marine, and up-dates weather conditions and forecasts. Prompt and timely delivery of severe/hazardous weather conditions and warnings in advance which has a potential to cause damage/disruptions for aviation, marine and public safety. Maintain the provision of aviation meteorology in a safe, efficient, continuous and sustainable manner for air navigation, aerodrome and within Malta Air Space.
General Duties & Responsibilities:
To monitor the weather situation in the areas of interest for local and “en route” weather forecasting.
Provision of timely Meteorological Services to Air Navigation, Civil & Marine
Create Aeronautical forecasts for the local Airport Area and within the Flight Information Region on a timeline basis.
Collect and monitor data from satellite images, radar, remote sensors and weather stations.
Study the weather models for complexity and urgency of weather situation for air navigation, aerodrome and civil.
Analysis of data weather real-time or model forecast output during tour of duty.
To issue Warnings and advisories which has a potential to cause damage/disruptions for aviation, marine and public safety.
To prepare and issue coding weather reports for transmission over international networks
Keeping continuous monitoring of approaching and development of weather fronts for both civil and aviation.
To create and update forecast for the MIA Website.
To create shipping forecast for broadcast by the Palace Tower and for the International NAVTEX broadcast.
To brief Pilots and answer other specific weather related requires.
To reply to questions from the press, including recorded participation on Radio and TV.
To issue occurrence reports when these are required.
To apply quality assurance procedures for the provision of timely weather forecasts.
To prepare reports for presentation at the Law Courts on behalf of the Met Office.
To assist the Manager Meteorological Services in the daily running of the office.
To promote a positive image of the organization.
To care for a spotlessly clean environment at MIA premises.
To report shortcomings immediately to the responsible department when noticing them, and making sure that action is taken immediately to deal with them.
To conform to the Occupational Health & Safety Authority Act., ACT XXVII of 2000 and subsidiary legislations.
To perform any other duties and/or related tasks as may be designated by the Organisation from time to time.
