Human factor in aviation

This course is about understanding human behaviour in the workplace. You will receive a comprehensive overview of the human factors affecting employees` performance. Human beings are a fundamental cause of errors. For example, over 80% of aviation incidents and accidents result from human errors. In this course, you will learn about the strengths and limitations of human beings, the SCHELL model, the Just culture concept and the influence of organisational culture in building more safety and sustainable infrastructure, procedures and processes. You will be aware of the importance of team spirit, communication in aviation, decision making and situational awareness. This knowledge will support you in how to face and handle human factors properly.

In addition, we provide a neuroscience-based assessment tool called NAP, which measures individual neuro design, learning and performing patterns, overall neuroagility and different components such as coping with stress and different types of intelligence. This instrument can define the individual risk of human error, which is highly valuable in the aviation industry. This test is optional and not included in the course fee.

Acquired knowledge, skills and competencies by the learner after completing the training course:

  • Knowledge of the "Human Factor" and how personal presentation affects our relationships with others and workplace safety
  • Recognition of human elements in designed systems and procedures in aviation
  • Recognising and limiting the factors that lead to human error
  • Acquisition of individual performance management skills
  • Skills for proper allocation of resources in the team
  • Knowledge and application of the Just Culture concept
  • Understanding the role of the Human Factor in the occurrence of incidents and their investigation
  • Increase commitment, concentration and motivation in the workplace

The training is based on different training methods such as simulations, exercises, work with peers, individual work, case studies, etc., to develop a highly effective training procedure. Finally, the program concludes with reflections on what the participants have learned and an action plan to help them apply the insights they gained during the program.
